Why Wry?

"All's wry with the world" accurately expresses my cynical, humorous, ironic outlook on life.

Although I created this blog as a vehicle to simply comment on the craziness of everyday life, I didn't do anything with it until a near-death climbing-gym accident allowed me plenty of time (while lying immobile in a hospital bed for weeks on end) to reflect on what happened and how I gradually progressed over time.

I hoped to share a "cautionary tale" for people engaged in potentially lethal activities, sharing the dire consequences of a few seconds of inattention.  Writing about all the travails and unexpected silver linings has no doubt been therapeutic for me as well.

This is how I introduced "AllsWry" when I set it up back in 2010, and then I did absolutely nothing with it until the accident: "wry" frequently captures my sentiments regarding the news of the day.  I shake my head and wonder at what passes for common sense, right actions, and/or progress.  Don't you?!

An online dictionary defines "wry" as an adjective that describes persons, places or things as:
  • amusing and ironic: combining or expressing a mixture of mild amusement and irony
  • characterized by ironic acceptance: characterized by or showing a slightly ironic acceptance of something that is not particularly pleasant or desirable
  • twisted: out of shape or twisted to one side
So, . . . here's a place to capture quick responses to what we read, see, and hear out in the world each day and hopefully to make some sense of it all.
